Overview
In partnership with other non-governmental organizations and community based organizations ICO plans to provide clean drinking water through sinking of wells and boreholes and purifying the same to accepted standards. Through our clean water projects we strive to transform entire communities and help give people access to safe and clean drinking water, thus helping to improve their standards of living. They now have access to clean and safe water to drink, cook and wash. This inevitably improves productivity as the time taken to go for long walks to fetch dirty water is minimized or eliminated. The project empowers women as it allows mothers to be more productive and increase their incomes as well as make it possible for more children to attend school.

Impact
The clean water project:
1. Prevents sickness, morbidity and death caused by contaminated cooking and drinking water;
2. Allows more children to attend school on regular basis there will no longer be a need to cover long distances in search of water;
3. Allow women to engage in more productive activities that can increase their income, as no long hourly walks are required to fetch water;

It was the intention of International Care Outreach to develop long term provisions for this project. The provisions are expected to help create environments for sustainable development within communities especially through horticulture. When this is achieved, International Care Outreach are able to provide farming-assistance by facilitating land preparation, provision of seeds, fertilizer and promotion of modern animal husbandry. We work with the government to supply electricity wherever there is a borehole or well sunk.
